Troost dipinse varie scene dal popolare gioco “Jan Claasz o la Supposed Servant Girl”. Il finale del gioco è un accumulo di situazioni farseche. Saartje è sul punto di sposare il noioso Reinier. Quello che nessuno sa è che lei è segretamente innamorata di Jan Claasz. Per evitare il matrimonio, la coppia ha infilato una trama: travestita da una serva, l’amante di Saartje si infila nel suo letto di notte. La mattina del matrimonio, i genitori di Saartje scoprono l’inganno e volano in una rabbia. Per salvare la situazione, Saatje finge di svenire, in cui i suoi genitori accettano un matrimonio tra Saartje e Jan Claaz. Tutto è bene che finisce bene.
