Gli dei classici si sono riuniti per un incontro allegro tra le nuvole. Un paesaggio collinare idealizzato si estende sotto di loro. Van Poelenburch ha basato le sue dee nude sulle statue romane che aveva visto in Italia. Van Poelenburch visse per alcuni anni a Roma, e fu una delle prime generazioni di artisti Utrecht a iniziare a dipingere paesaggi del sud al loro ritorno. Ha avuto grande successo con loro, e il suo lavoro è stato molto popolare con il grande duca di Toscana, il pugnale olandese e il re d'Inghilterra.
