Un diminutivo 23 por 32 pulgadas, esta pintura ha sido llamada la mejor pintura pequeña del mundo. El tema y la composición de la pintura es inusual, y la iconografía en la pintura ha sido objeto de mucha conjetura. La pintura ilustra la flagelación de Cristo en un patio abierto, mientras que tres hombres no identificados permanecen indiferentes en primer plano. La pequeña pintura se enorgullece por el uso de la perspectiva lineal, retratando a los hombres en el fondo a un tamaño menor que los del primer plano de la pintura.
