El sitter de este impresionante retrato ha sido identificado como la quinta hija del banquero Francesco Sassetti y su esposa (tenían siete hijas en todos). La ocasión pudo haber sido su matrimonio con Simone d’Amerigo Carnesecchi en 1488. Su collar llamativo está hecho de materiales ricamente simbólicos que comunican sus méritos como esposa según ideales contemporáneos, con perlas que indican su pureza y un hilo de corales que representan la salud. El fondo era originalmente azul, que oscureció como el pigmento azurite envejecido. El marco fino es del siglo XVI.
