Eines der zahlreichen Kopien eines verlorenen Originals von Bouts, dieser Diptych wurde vielleicht fünfzig Jahre nach dem Tod des Meisters produziert. Die beste Version der Komposition, jetzt im Art Institute, Chicago, kann auf der Grundlage von wissenschaftlichen Beweisen zwischen 1480 und 1495, oder kurz nach Bouts Tod. Nun in das sechzehnte Jahrhundert war die Werkstatt unter der Leitung von Dierics Söhnen aktiv, und unsere Platten können von einem Assistenten dort gut bemalt worden.
