Un alumno de Annibale Carracci, Domenichino fue un defensor clave de un estilo clásico idealizador. Sus paisajes transponen la observación de la naturaleza a un reino intemporal e idílico. Este aceite de cobre representa una escena del libro bíblico de Éxodo en el que un arbusto ardiente era uno de los tres milagros que Dios mostró a Moisés para confirmar su misión de dirigir a los israelitas fuera de Egipto.
