Dieses zynische Porträt zeigt den Florentiner Bankier Francesco Sassetti und seinen jungen Sohn Teodoro, geboren 1479. Teodoro wurde nach seinem älteren Bruder benannt, der im selben Jahr starb. Die Haltung des Jungen spiegelt die Vorliebe wider, Frauen und Kinder im Profil zu präsentieren, um ihre Heiligkeit und Reinheit zu betonen, während der frontale, kontemplative Blick seines Vaters die Weisheit (und Sorgen) des Alters betont. Sassetti leitete die Medici-Banken in Avignon, Genf und Lyon und war Berater von Piero de’ Medici und Lorenzo der Magnificent. Der Hintergrund zeigt ein von Sassetti in Genf gebautes Oratorium.
