Questo ritratto dinastico mostra il banchiere fiorentino Francesco Sassetti e il figlio Teodoro, nato nel 1479. Teodoro prende il nome da suo fratello maggiore, morto lo stesso anno. La posa del ragazzo riflette la preferenza per presentare donne e bambini nel profilo per accentuare la loro santità e purezza, mentre lo sguardo frontale e contemplativo del padre sottolinea la saggezza (e le preoccupazioni) dell'età. Sassetti gestiva le banche medicee ad Avignone, Ginevra e Lione, ed era consigliere di Piero de’ Medici e Lorenzo il Magnifico. Lo sfondo mostra un oratorio costruito da Sassetti a Ginevra.
