Eiraku Hozen excelled at copying the late Ming dynasty underglaze blue porcelains “Shonzui” that had been commissioned as tea ceremony wares by Japanese tea masters, and this work is a stellar example of those skills. Por el contrario, la combinación de abejas y motivos de dragón fue una innovación Hozen, y la inscripción de 18 caracteres escrita en marcos circulares alrededor del interior del borde de la copa constituye un debate verbal, enfrentando la abeja contra el dragón. El centro interior está decorado con el personaje “ju” para la longevidad, escrito en letras blancas contra un suelo azul. Se dice que esta copa fue encargada de honrar el 61 cumpleaños de Hashimoto, un aesthete y un funcionario del gobierno en Nara.
