El padrastro del artista, Monsieur Le Sèvre (1724-1810), fue un orfebre dorado y platero que trajo a la familia de Vigée para vivir sobre su tienda en la rue Saint-Honoré. Se le muestra sentado en un escritorio, leyendo, en una bata de satén y una copa de noche, típico atuendo en casa para los hombres de la época. El retratamiento simpático crea el intenso disgusto que sentía Vigée para él. Ella lo acusó de acaparar sus ingresos.
