Der Stiefvater des Künstlers, Monsieur Le Sèvre (1724–1810), war ein Gold- und Silberschmiede, der Vigées Familie dazu brachte, über seinem Laden in der Rue Saint-Honoré zu leben. Er sitzt auf einem Schreibtisch, liest, in einer Satin Robe und Nightcap, typisch zu Hause für Männer der Zeit. Die sympathische Darstellung fasst das intensive Ungeziefer Vigée für ihn. Sie beschuldigte ihn, ihr Einkommen zu horten.
