La bellezza della Regina Luise (1776–1810) è attestata da molti ritratti ed è stata eguagliata solo dalla sua acuta intelligenza. Un avido lettore e un politico ardente, ha esercitato grande influenza sul marito, Federico Guglielmo III di Prussia. L'artista ha dipinto il ritratto a Parigi da un precedente studio pastello fatto dalla vita. La tavolozza è pallida e la tecnica è liscia e altamente finita.
