The Pinecrest Estate, located in the Durham, North Carolina Forest Hills neighborhood, was the home of noted philanthropist and heir Mary Duke Biddle (1887–1960) from 1935 until her death. In 2004 Elizabeth Matheson documented the historic interior of the house and estate before its contents were sold. This photograph captures the elaborately designed swimming pool constructed on the estate as part of a major renovation to the property that took place during the late 1930s through the 1950s.
