Questo dispositivo, inventato da Emil Du Bois-Raymond (1818-1896), è una bobina di induzione utilizzata per produrre energia elettrica a intensità variabile. È composto da una base rettangolare in legno con due bobine: una bobina fissa e una bobina mobile. Spostando la seconda bobina a una notevole distanza da quella fissa, è stato possibile diversificare l'intensità della scarica elettrica.
