Ettore Ximenes (1855-1926) foi um escultor italiano que residiu no Brasil entre 1919 e 1926, quando retornou à Itália pouco antes de morrer. Individuum in der Nähe von: O Retrato de Maria Fonzari, feito a pastel sobre papel, pela sua técnica aparece como uma obra descompromissada, isto é, não foi feita como uma encomenda oficial, mas provavelmente como um exercício ou interesse pessoal. Mesmo assim, a mulher mantém uma pose magnânima e nos encara com olhar firme e tranquilo, tal como se sustentasse a altivez de um monumento ou a profundidade de uma figura histórica.
