Dies ist eines von drei Porträts von Frauen von Bol beschriftet 1642, das früheste bekannte Datum auf Gemälden von ihm. Der Dordrecht-Künstler studierte etwa 1636–41 bei Rembrandt und wurde dann zu einem der erfolgreichsten Porträtisten von Amsterdam. Trotz der reichen Darstellung von Spitze und Schmuck in diesem Bild ist sein attraktiver Aspekt das Gefühl des Sitzers, wie in Rembrandts Porträts von etwa der gleichen Zeit.
