The first main version of this composition, for which there are numerous studies and life-size individual figures. A six-figure version is in the Kunstmuseum Solothurn, a four-figure version with a red background is in the SKKG Winterhut (Foundation for Art, Culture and History, former Stoll Collection).In 1911 Hodler retouched the two outer figures, especially the one on the right, for which his wife had been sititng as a model; the original condition is preserved in a photograph (Ferdinand Hodler (exh. cat. Zurich/Berlin, National Gallery/Paris, Musée du Petit Palais 1983), fig. 193).
