Bourdon ging 1652 nach Schweden, wo er in den Dienst des römisch-redoubtable Monarchen Queen Christina ging, der schließlich Politik für Kunst aufgab. Während seiner Jahre in Schweden, Bourdon meist ausgeführt Porträts, gekennzeichnet durch ihre Eleganz und Feinheit. Sie sind in der Regel mit dem Gesicht leicht gedreht, eine Art Porträt, die äußerst einflussreich auf die nächste Generation von Malern, vor allem Le Brun und Mignard, und eine ganze Reihe von kleineren Porträtisten.
