Esta pintura, mostrada con su colgante en el Salón de 1765, epitomiza el tratamiento de Boucher de los llamados "Loves of the Gods", basado en las Metamorfosis de Ovid (completed A.D. 8). Júpiter (symbolically represented as an eagle) se ha transformado en la diosa Diana (identificada por la pequeña luna crescente en su frente) con el fin de seducir al seguidor doncello de Diana, Callisto. El disfraz y el conceit esfico permitieron a Boucher representar no a una, sino a dos mujeres escandalosas. Los cuerpos bisectando el formato oval, las nubes, y la elaborada prisa de los draperios contribuyen a crear una representación deliberadamente inestable del espacio.
