Più tardi nella vita Boucher divenne il primo pittore di Luigi XV, ma iniziò la sua carriera lavorando come eccher, incaricato di riprodurre disegni di altri artisti. Lo stile incisione senza sforzo di Boucher è una testimonianza della sua eccellente redazione, un'abilità che lo ha servito non solo come pittore ma come designer di arazzi, figurine in ceramica e altri oggetti decorativi. Qui, in una delle sue composizioni, Boucher ritrae il culmine del mito greco quando Perseo si intrufola per salvare la principessa Andromeda, che fu incatenata a una scogliera rocciosa come sacrificio al mostro marino Cetus.
