Herramientas verdaderas para la gloria napoleónica, las llamadas huellas epinales de Jean-Charles Pellerin representan un verdadero héroe romántico en la forma de Bonaparte. Para comenzar con imágenes propagandistas en el siglo XIX, el reissue de 1912 propiedad del Museo Bertrand sirvió para inflar el sentimiento patriótico de los franceses al amanecer de la Primera Guerra Mundial. El sitio de Toulon (1793) marca aquí la reputación militar de un joven Bonaparte tanto general como soldado, que ya destaca por su presencia. Fue también en medio de este fuego de artillería que Jean-Andoche Junot, conocido como La Tempête, hizo su debut como secretario del futuro emperador.
