Rey Luis Las hijas de XV, conocidas colectivamente como Mesdames de France, establecieron un importante enclave de patronato en Versalles y apoyaron especialmente a los retratistas Drouais, Jean Marc Nattier y Adélaïde Labille-Guiard. Este retrato de Sophie de Francia, la sexta de estas ocho hijas, fue el primero en una serie de Drouais a principios de 1760. Su elaborado vestido incluye un manguito de piel y una abundancia de flores artificiales que parecen tomar el tejido, brocado floral de su corpiño en tres dimensiones.
