Heim, il pre-eminente pittore ufficiale della Restaurazione Bourbon, è uno dei pittori meno noti per aver raggiunto fama e successo in Francia nel 1820. I suoi schizzi di olio sono sempre stati premiati dagli intenditori, e questo è particolarmente vigoroso. È uno dei due schizzi preparatori per l'immagine molto più grande dello stesso soggetto che è stato mostrato al Salone del 1824 (Musée du Louvre, Parigi). Il dipinto è pieno di azione drammatica come i Romani attaccano i Gerusalemmeti su uno sfondo di edifici classici con folle raccolte sui gradini.
