Questo dipinto illustra perfettamente il successo di Granet come un maestro di piccole vedute romane. L'arco del Ponte San Rocco fornisce la cornice per uno scorcio accuratamente strutturato del fiume Aniene mentre fa male attraverso il borgo collinare di Tivoli, mezza giornata a est di Roma. Si tratta di un dipinto finito destinato ad un collezionista privato. È stato creato nello studio di Granet da uno schizzo di olio (Musée Granet, Aix-en-Provence) che è stato eseguito all'aperto sul sito. Uno studente di Jacques-Louis David, Granet visitò l'Italia nel 1802 e tornò l'anno successivo per rimanere fino al 1824.
