Gekauft von den Souveränen Italiens 1883 in Rom auf der Ausstellung für die Sammlungen der Savoyen, wurde es der Königlichen Villa von Monza zugeordnet. 1915 wurde sie in den Quirinalpalast überführt. Die große Leinwand der Unterwerfung des Risorgimento - wie der alternative Titel zeigt Die Rückkehr des Konskripts - wird von der berauschenden Helligkeit, die durch das immense Licht Blau des Hintergrunds erzeugt wird dominiert. Die Arbeit, für die Lojacono die Ehre des Kommandanten der Krone von Italien hatte, wurde von Kritikern sehr geschätzt, so viel, dass er kamkoined die Epithet von
