Historical scene representing the moment when the first President of the Republic, Marshal Deodoro da Fonseca, took the oath of the Federal Constitution on February 26, 1891. The painting depicts several deputies who are members of the National Constituent Assembly, presided over by Prudente de Moraes, whose figure occupies the center of the painting. Currently, the work is exhibited at the Ministerial Hall of the Palácio do Catete (Museu da República).
