L'ex Douglas Mansion in West 14th Street è stata la seconda casa del Met dal 1873 al 1879 prima di trasferirsi nella sua posizione attuale. Fin dai primi anni del museo, la scultura ha avuto una presenza fisica dominante, come attesta questa vista dell’ingresso. Basato su disegni in situ, Waller registrò attentamente l'installazione, notando poi che "per quanto va può essere dipendere da come esatto, e quindi [sic] storico." Il primo presidente della Art Students League, una scuola fondata nel 1875, sostenne la missione educativa dei musei. Qui una donna consulta attentamente una guida di fronte a Polixena di William Wetmore Story (1873), poi in prestito a The Met.
