Im Jahre 1888 wurde Remington beauftragt, das Lied von Hiawatha, das epische Gedicht von Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, für eine Deluxe-Edition, die 1891 veröffentlicht wurde, zu illustrieren. Von da an hat eine hoch entwickelte Praktikerin der Granatille-Technik Remington zweiundzwanzig Schwarz-Weiß-Ölmalereien ausgeführt, eine für jeden der Kantos des Gedichts. Diese Darstellung begleitet canto 6, die beschreibt Hiawathas zwei engsten Freunde: Chibiabos, der Musiker und Kwasind, der starke Mann. Der gezackte Boulder im Fluss verspricht einem von Kwasinds Stärken. Er warf einen riesigen Felsen in den Pauwating River, wo er in den Sommermonaten über der Wasserlinie sichtbar blieb.
