Robert Henderson Croll (1869-1947), autore, ha lavorato come impiegato nel servizio pubblico vittoriano per oltre 40 anni, ma è meglio ricordato per i suoi libri e giornalismo. Figlio di un minatore d'oro scozzese, iniziò a contribuire agli articoli di Melbourne nei suoi primi anni venti. Croll era anche un inveterato bushwalker – una volta ha affermato di aver ‘portato il suo swag’ circa 3000 miglia – e ha esaltato i piaceri di Bushwalking attraverso la sua prosa, alcuni dei quali è stato pubblicato in The Open Road in Victoria (1928) e Lungo la pista (1930). Croll è stato coinvolto anche nei circoli artistici di Melbourne, e un socio di artisti come John Longstaff, Arthur Streeton e Fred McCubbin. Dopo aver pubblicato una biografia di Tom Roberts nel 1935, nel 1946 Croll pubblicò un volume di lettere di Streeton a Roberts, Smike to Bulldog (1946). Inoltre, sulla base di diversi viaggi in Australia Centrale, è stato coautore di un primo testo sull'arte aborigena.
