Frederick Goodall hizo su segundo viaje a Egipto en 1870 en compañía de su hermano mayor y compañero artista, Edward Angelo, pasando tres meses dibujando y pintando en campamentos beduinos en Sakkara en el borde del desierto, "painando a las mujeres tejiendo y los árabes girando la rueda, derramando ovejas, llevando sus ovejas a y desde el pasto, molendo el maíz con dos piedras". "Su modo de vida, en resumen", dijo, "es como se describe en la Biblia, excepto que usan armas en lugar de lanzas. ’
