Ursprünglich in der Kirche Santa Maria delle Grazie dei Canonici Regolari Lateranensi in Reggio Emilia platziert. Im Jahre 1783 wurde diese Arbeit der Confraternita delle 5 Piaghe durch den Herzog von Modena Ercole III, um die Bewegung des Crocifisso durch Guido Reni in die Galleria Estense zu kompensieren
