L'apostolo di piede nudo indossa un ampio tunico blu e un mantello rosso sulle spalle. Nella mano destra, tiene la doppia chiave, un accessorio sapientemente rappresentato, e nella mano sinistra è il Libro chiuso. Dietro San Pietro è una parete alta, dopo di che si può scorgere un paesaggio montagnoso sotto un cielo grigio pallidamente illuminato. Profondamente influenzato da Vasco Fernandes, Gaspar Vaz è definito dal suo atteggiamento grazioso ed efficiente, anche se mostra abilità tecniche e creative inferiori, come si può vedere nei due esempi (San Pietro e San Paolo) provenienti da una chiesa della regione Viseu.
