Lo sketch, uno dei soli due paesaggi puri di Stubbs, è una vista di una casa di sfregamento e corso di gara su Newmarket Heath. Ripetutamente citato dall'artista (vedi Turf, con Jockey Up, a Newmarket), la tela rimase nel suo studio fino alla sua morte. L'edificio stabile di mattoni rossi e piastrelle ingiallite era squat e utilitario, alloggiando bancarelle dove i cavalli erano sellati prima di una gara e strofinato giù dopo con paglia o panni ruvidi. Preferito da Stubbs su scorci fugaci di spettatori eccitati, questi edifici hanno portato silenziosa testimonianza di vittorie vinte e concorsi subiti.
