Nel Nieuwe Kerk, o Nuova Chiesa, nella città di Delft, alcuni visitatori stanno guardando la tomba di Guglielmo di Orange, il Padre della Patria. La nostra vista del monumento è ostruita dalla grande colonna bianca che porta graffiti seicenteschi. Houckgeest era un importante innovatore dell'interno della chiesa olandese. È stato il primo artista a descrivere gli spazi utilizzando una prospettiva diagonale, piuttosto che nella loro lunghezza o larghezza, dando così alla scena un effetto più casuale, naturale.
