Gerbrand van den Eeckhout trained with Rembrandt in the years 1635-40. He painted many biblical scenes, but also portraits, figure studies and the occasional landscape. The portraits, of which around 20 have survived, make up only a small portion of his oeuvre. The portrait of Maria Dircksdr Bogaert is an excellent example of Van den Eeckhout
