Gerbrand van den Eeckhout trainiert mit Rembrandt in den Jahren 1635-40. Er malte viele biblische Szenen, aber auch Porträts, Figurenstudien und die gelegentliche Landschaft. Die Porträts, von denen rund 20 überlebt haben, bilden nur einen kleinen Teil seines Werks. Das Porträt von Maria Dircksdr Bogaert ist ein hervorragendes Beispiel von Van den Eeckhout
