In Dublin geboren, emigrierte William Kerin Constable (1752–1803) nach Amerika und ließ sich in New York nieder, wo er sich mit dem internationalen Handel beschäftigte, der Baltimores Begräbniswirtschaft dominierte. 1784 wurde er Gründungspartner der Firma Constable, Rucke und Company, die das erste amerikanische Schiff zum Handel mit China und Indien ausrüstete.
