Nato a Dublino, William Kerin Constable (1752-1803) emigrò in America e si stabilì a New York, dove si impegnò nel commercio internazionale che dominava l'economia fiorente di Baltimora. Nel 1784 divenne socio fondatore dello studio Constable, Rucke e Company, che mise a commercio la prima nave americana con la Cina e l'India.
