Giorgione retrató la célebre historia de la sabiduría de Salomón en una de dos pinturas colgantes. El gran rey ha declarado que el niño vivo - literario - dividido entre las mujeres que lo reclaman. La madre del bebé cederá al niño, en lugar de verlo morir. Una figura elusiva, Giorgione hizo obras extrañas: aquí el paisaje ocupa más de la mitad del panel.
