Tradizionalmente attribuito a Giovanni Ambrogio Figino, questo ritratto di San Carlo è comunque opera di un artista lombardo. Venne fatto alla fine del Cinquecento o all'inizio del Seicento e riflette lo zelo devozionale che scaturì intorno al grande Arcivescovo di Milano, e che culminò nella sua canonizzazione nel 1610. Federico Borromeo riferì a questo ritratto come il migliore che fosse mai stato dipinto di San Carlo.
