Als Bacchus auf der Insel Naxos ankam, fand er die schöne Tochter von Minos, Ariadne, die von Theseus verlassen worden war. Bacchus heiratete sie und ihre Krone wurde in eine Konstellation von Jupiter umgewandelt. In dem vorliegenden Bild stellt Bacchus, das Weinreben in seinen Haaren trägt, einen Ring auf Ariadnes Finger. Das Thema wurde von Pellegrini mehrmals behandelt. Das vorliegende Bild kann von nach 1721, nach Pellegrini Rückkehr nach Venedig und seine umfangreiche Arbeit in England, Düsseldorf, den Niederländern und Paris.
