Poco si conosce il percorso di carriera del pittore veneziano Giambattista Cimaroli, oltre ad una breve collaborazione con Canaletto, Giovanni Battista Piazzetta e Giovanni Battista Pittoni. Cimaroli ha fornito preziose testimonianze di scene a Venezia, nel Veneto e nella regione di Verona. Questa splendida vista della vita sulla Brenta vicino alla città di Dolo, a breve distanza da Venezia, è un caso a punto. Sappiamo che la grande casa al centro, qui animata con vita residente, è stata recentemente demolita. Quando Robert Lehman acquistò questa foto nel 1955, fu attribuito al meglio conosciuto Francesco Zuccarelli. Ma riconosciamo da altri dipinti Cimaroli il suo fogliame distintivo e densamente impasto, figure rigidamente poste. L'immagine offre uno scorcio di vita settecentesca che si è giocato in mezzo all'architettura eterogenea del Veneto.
