Der Kopf, ein Beispiel der italienischen spätgotischen Kunst, wird von Giovanni Pisano geglaubt, der unter seinem Vater Nicola Pisano trainierte (c. 1220/1225 - c. 1284) in seiner Werkstatt, seine so genannte "botecca". Stil und Technik In Bezug auf Stil und Technik erinnert der Kopf an die vielen Skulpturen, die in den Reliefs und Sockeln seines Hauptwerks erscheinen: die Kanzel an der Taufe in Pisa, die zwischen 1302 und 1310 aus Marmor geschnitzt wurde. Jüngste Studien zeigen, dass der Kopf vermutlich aus dem Grabmal, das jetzt zerstört wurde, für Margaret von Luxemburg 1311 geschaffen ist. Die Skulptur
