La testa, esempio di arte tardo gotica italiana, si ritiene sia di Giovanni Pisano che si è formato sotto il padre Nicola Pisano (c. 1220/1225 - c. 1284) nel suo laboratorio, la sua cosiddetta “botecca”. Stile e tecnica In termini di stile e di tecnica la testa ricorda le numerose sculture che appaiono nei rilievi e basi piedistalli della sua opera principale: il pulpito al battistero di Pisa, che era intagliato dal marmo tra il 1302 e il 1310. Recenti studi dimostrano che la testa è presumibilmente dal monumento sepolcrale, ora distrutto, creato per Margherita di Lussemburgo nel 1311. La scultura
