Et in Arcadia Ego (The Arcadian Shepherds)(c. 1618-1622) è ora in mostra nella Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Antica di Roma. L'immagine è collegata al Guercino's Flaying of Marsyas di Apollo a Palazzo Pitti (1618), in cui è presente lo stesso gruppo di pastori. il ritratto mostra i due giovani pastori che fissano un teschio, con un topo e una farfalla, posti su un cippo con le parole Et in Arcadia ego ("Sono anche in Arcadia"). Quest'ultimo è un riferimento morale alla morte. La frase appare per la prima volta nell'arte e nell'architettura in questo lavoro. L'iconografia del tema del memento mori fu piuttosto popolare a Roma e a Venezia fin dai tempi del Rinascimento.
