A partir de 1900, junto a las alegorías y retratos, Klimt descubrió paisajes como un tema preferido para sus pinturas. La tradición de permanecer en Salzkammergut cada verano fue muy útil para crear estas pinturas paisajísticas. Klimt viajó al Attersee cada año durante unas semanas en julio y agosto en compañía de su compañero de vida Emilie Flöge y su familia. El encantador paisaje de verano en la orilla del lago proporcionó al artista maestro con innumerables motivos para sus pinturas paisajísticas. Además, Klimt también tuvo mucho tiempo para caminatas y excursiones.
