Lady Lee, nata Margaret Wyatt, è cresciuta in una famiglia strettamente collegata alla corte di Enrico VIII. Suo padre, Henry Wyatt, servì come tesoriere della camera del re, e suo fratello, Thomas, era il più grande poeta Tudor e un ambasciatore. Viene mostrata qui all'età di trentaquattro anni, vestita in modo cortese dei primi 1540. Il dipinto è vicino al modo di Holbein, ma l'attenzione prestata agli effetti decorativi e dettagli lineari a scapito della rappresentazione lifelike della sitter è indicativa della produzione di officina. Il ritratto era probabilmente basato su un disegno Holbein.
