Christina, figlia minore di Cristiano II di Danimarca e Isabella d'Austria, sorella di Carlo V, nacque nel 1522. Nel 1533 sposò per procura il Duca di Milano, morto nel 1535. Holbein visitò Bruxelles nel 1538, e per tre ore Christina sedette per un ritratto. Indossa vestiti di lutto. L'ambasciatore inglese stava organizzando per Enrico VIII di vedere la Duchessa
