Portraiture era il genere più popolare dell'Inghilterra cinquecentesca, e infatti uno dei pochi a disposizione degli artisti a seguito dello scisma tra la Chiesa di Roma e la Chiesa d'Inghilterra, di cui Enrico VIII divenne capo. Questa somiglianza del famoso re Tudor è un magnifico esempio di Holbein
