Un ritratto di Sir Thomas More (1478 - 1535) Il ritratto mostra la testa e le spalle e la sitter affronta tre quarti a destra. Indossa un cappello e un collare di pelliccia. Il disegno è stato punito per il trasferimento. Iscritto in una mano del XVIII secolo in alto a sinistra: Tho: Moor Ld Chancelour. Hans Holbein nacque ad Augusta, addestrato a Basilea e trascorse un totale di tredici anni in Inghilterra, nel 1526-8 e nel 1532-43. Durante quest'ultimo periodo fu l'artista più importante della corte di Enrico VIII, anche se gli inglesi erano principalmente interessati ai ritratti di se stessi - come Anthony Van Dyck doveva trovare un secolo dopo - e poco sopravvive di Holbein
